Last weekend, I saw Yacht Rock Revue cover The Beatles’ “Abbey Road” album at Variety Playhouse, at it was awesome.  Before they did that album, they did Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” with “The Wizard of Oz” playing on a screen behind them, so we could all see if what we heard was a worthwhile endeavor from our stoner friends in undergrad actually is, in fact, a worthwhile endeavor.  It sort of is.  Maybe it’s moreso if you’re high.  Speaking of high, this was the encore…

I was introduced to Pepto as a teen who’d consumed too much candy one Halloween.  My mother produced it to silence my whining about frequent trips to the potty.  When I asked what it was, she said, “It’s like concrete for your bottom.”  I pictured my dad with a trowel patching up the little brick wall my uncle knocked over while backing out our driveway the previous Christmas.  Can Pepto-Bismol do that?  If so, it was exactly what I needed, as my backside was a gushing faucet of…

My children like it, so when we got a box in the mail from Netflix containing talk show props and masks to reenact the show, they were on board.  Our only problems were a lack of a working time machine and the fact that…

A few months ago, I sent an email to a couple friends from high school about planning a trip together sometime this spring or summer–the year all of us turn 40.  We bounced around a few ideas about things to do or places to go, and I thought we’d go on a hiking trip for a few days on the AT, but one in our group broke his leg in a couple places after he followed my lead in jumping through a bonfire at his Halloween party the…

When I was in law school, a major impediment to my doing well on exams was the propensity of one of the TV stations to show “The Sound of Music” every mid-December.  I know a single dude in his 20s isn’t necessarily supposed to love a movie from 1965 that features love and a bunch of singing, but I did.  This only got worse when I spent a summer studying international arbitration in Austria. So, when I was 30-something, had a daughter named Liesl, and was fresh off…
