How to enjoy a Bama game without being at the game

Since 1988, there has been but one voice worthy of exclaiming the magical words “Touchdown Alabama!” and that voice belongs to Eli Gold.  The only problem is…he’s on the radio, and if the ‘Bama game is on TV, I gotta listen to whoever the station carrying the game has hired to commentate, and that person will invariably fail to carry the level of excitement in his voice when the Tide scores a touchdown that Eli Gold carries.  I ain’t got time for that.  So, for the past several games, I’ve watched the Tide games on TV, hit the “mute” button, and used the TuneIn app on my iphone to listen to Eli Gold provide the game’s commentary.  Sometimes, the radio broadcast is a good 20 seconds behind TV.  But you know what?  I don’t give a damn.  Eli’s better.  Much better.

Sometimes I’m traveling during a ‘Bama game.  Or, maybe my bride’s out of town, and I’m trying to manage 3 small children on a Saturday and don’t want them to destroy our house, so I send them into the yard to play amongst the piles of dog poop while I listen to the game on my outdoor rock speakers via Bluetooth and the iPhone app.  Such was the manner in which I followed the Iron Bowl last weekend.

Do you hear what I hear?  A touchdown!

I even cooked dinner while listening.

Then I served the 6-year-old a side item whilst streaming the sweet sounds of a Tide victory in the playroom.  He was INTO it.

Having 3 small children and a commitment to the United States Air Force Reserves makes going to college football games out of state hard.  Luckily, I’ve found a way to cope.  The struggle is real, but it’s manageable.  And for that, I have the TuneIn app to thank.

Disclosure: I have partnered with (and was compensated by) Life of Dad, LLC and TuneIn for this promotion, but I was using this app anyway, so I figured I’d get some cheddar for my sharing it with you fine people.

I especially love you listening on the patio while cooking. Because I get to have my BBQ while you listen to the game!
